I really like this new site a lot. But, the thing I wanted to voice was a concern for people that use a myspace page as a business web site. Myspace can serve it's purpose to an extent, but since this place is filled with newbies. I thought maybe I should explain how to make a page look more professional. Actually, the main problem I see is that many people (especially the young ladies) like to add a myspace layout, pictures, videos, graphics, etc. All of this crap just slows the page down. A potential customer should never have to wait for up to, and over a minute in some cases for a page to load. Your page should be fast and and easily accessible. There is nothing wrong with using a default layout. No one is going to be less likely to hire you because your myspace page didn't have glitter. Think of your page like a resume: less bells & whistles, yet better content.

As for you that have an actual web site. The same rules apply. White is boring, but it is the fastest color to download. If this is your business, you want to make it as easy as possible for people to give you money.  Don't make them wait. Waiting is annoying, and gives time for second thoughts.

Of course if any of you need to see what a butt kickin' myspace page should look like, I would recommend: www.myspace.com/kengoisfunny

Thank you for that advice.  I have been told by casting directors that they get frustrated when they see unprofessional profiles.  All they want to see is YOU...your photos, your short demo, audio, etc.  They like simplicity.

Hello, Kengo. Thanks for the post.

I just want to insert my thoughts in this topic.  GreatTalents.com is not meant to replace MySpace, Facebook, and other social websites when it comes to "social network" where anyone can join, post any images, and have the ability to change how their profile look.

GreatTalents.com was created to provide a way for people in the entertainment industry to be easily found, be presented, and be marketed in a professional way.  Our goal is to be a "professional network" rather than "social network."

We differ from other social sites this way:

Not anybody can join:
Only people in the entertainment industry or those who are actively seeking to be involved should join.  Businesses that cater to the entertainment industry are welcome and must choose from one of the business categories we offer.  We aim to be a one-stop source for the entertainment industry.

Posting of Images, Audios, and Videos (media)
We limit the number of media members can post.  Why? Because we want you to showcase your talent or business by having you pick the best photos, audios, and/or videos.  Make sure to pick the best ones to post...no blurry images or self-portrait arms-length camera-phone shots

Clean and Readable Profile

  • We want users to be able to easily read your profile. We all have seen pages where you can barely read anything because of text colors and background colors or wallpaper.
  • We want the page to load as fast as possible.  Background images and embedded audio slows down your page--sometimes drastically.  People simply leave the page before it loads if it's taking too long.  You don't want to take that chance because you never know who is wanting to look at your profile.
  • No audio auto-play on your home page.  We don't want our members to embed some audio and force their readers to dowload a music they dont want to hear. Upload your music in your Audio page and let them choose what they want to hear.

Personalize your profile by marketing yourself in the "About" section and fully completing your profile.  Readers will be more impressed by a complete, readable, and fast loading profile.  Keep your professional profile seperate from your friends-and-family profile.

If you have a link to other social sites, such as MySpace, or to your own website, don't expect your profile readers to click on it if you don't have a complete profile.  People don't like jumping from one site to another to get information that should already be available. Instead, grab their attention right away by choosing the best photo for your profile, uploads your best media, and write something that would make them want to know more about you.
